Pearson BTEC Level 3 Certificate for Working as a Close Protection Operative within the Private Security Industry

Excellentia deliver training for the Pearson BTEC Level 3 Certificate for Working as a Close Protection Operative within the Private Security Industry. This qualification is a 21 day full package which includes the required Level 3 medical qualification (Week 1) and is designed for those who want to work as close protection operatives and require a Security Industry Authority (SIA) CP licence to practice.

This qualification is in compliance with and endorsed by the Security Industry Authority (SIA) and consists of a Total Qualification Time (TQT) of 170hrs. This includes 140 Guided Learning Hours (GLH).

The qualification comprises of the knowledge, understanding, and practical skills required to become a licensed close protection operative. It is assessed over three Units, two of which are assessed internally by Excellentia, and the third through a multiple-choice conflict management exam.

• Roles and responsibilities of a Close Protection Operative (CPO)
• Basic surveillance, anti-surveillance and counter-surveillance techniques
• Law & Legislation
• Close protection interpersonal skills
• Close protection reconnaissance
• Incident management
• Maintaining secure environments
• Threat assessment, risk management and operational planning
• Teamwork and operational briefing within a close protection environment
• Close protection foot drills
• Planning for route selection
• Transport management
• Venue security operations
• Close protection operational planning
•Providing close protection to an individual


(Unit 3) Conflict Management within the Private Security Industry

• The principles of conflict management
• Recognise, assess, and reduce risk in conflict situations
• Communicating in emotive situations to de-escalate conflict
• Develop and use problem solving strategies
• Good practice after conflict situations


Medical Module

• Level 3 First Responders – A 3 to 5 day Level 3 medical certification is legally required prior to starting any Close Protection training course.
