IWFM veterans in FM network 2 year anniversary event 18 Jun 2026
The IWFM veterans in FM network will celebrate its two-year anniversary with a special evening event, bringing together leaders, veterans, reservists, employers and changemakers from across the facilities management sector.
Two years on from its launch, the network will reflect on its progress, celebrate the growing Veterans in FM community and look ahead to its next stage of development. The evening will include meaningful discussion, networking, canapés, a free welcome drink and a cash bar.
The event will focus on the role of facilities management as a first-choice career destination for the military community, rather than a fallback option. It will explore themes including veteran transition, leadership, retention, social value, employer support and the future of the FM profession.
Speakers will include Louisa Clarke, Chair of the IWFM Veterans in FM Network, who will provide a two-year progress update and outline future opportunities for involvement.
The event sponsor, ISS, will be represented by Martin Burholt, COO UK&I for ISS Facility Services, who will share the company’s perspective on supporting the Armed Forces community and explain why this agenda matters to industry.
The programme will also feature lived experience and employer insight from JointForces@ISS, including a graduate sharing their transition journey into FM and a reservist from ISS discussing the experience of balancing military service with a civilian career.
Keynote speakers will include Major General (Retd) Seumas Kerr CBE, CEO of Defence Impact, who will speak on “From Fallback to First Choice: Raising the profile of facilities management as a career destination for the military community.” His address will consider how the FM sector can reposition itself as a genuine career path for service leavers, while also supporting employees who volunteer with the Reserves and Cadet Force.
Air Vice-Marshal Simon Edwards CB FCIPD, Director People and Air Secretary, Royal Air Force, will deliver a keynote on “Infrastructure, People and Performance: The role of facilities in military morale, retention and attraction.” He will discuss how facilities and infrastructure directly affect morale, retention and recruitment across the Armed Forces.
The evening will also include an introduction to Scotty’s, the military bereavement charity and charity partner for the event.
From 7.30pm onwards, guests will be invited to continue informal networking and drinks, with the bar and venue open until 11pm.
