Founded in 2017 and based in Portsmouth, SeaBot Maritime trains the people who operate, manage and supervise uncrewed and autonomous vessels. Its courses offer Service leavers a route into one of the fastest-growing areas of the marine sector.

Maritime autonomy is moving from trials to everyday operations, and employers need operators and supervisors who can run uncrewed vessels safely and to a recognised standard. SeaBot Maritime specialises in this workforce development, supporting both commercial and defence organisations as they bring uncrewed, autonomous and AI-enabled systems into service.

Training is delivered in three areas:

• Maritime Autonomy and Remote Operations: a structured three-stage Remote Operator development pathway. Stage 1, the Generic MASS Remote Operator course, is MCA-recognised under MGN 703 and builds the core competence to operate uncrewed surface vessels. Stage 2 progresses into advanced live USV operations, and Stage 3 into Remote Operations Centre supervision and mission management.
• USV Survey and Hydrography: collecting, processing, analysing and integrating hydrographic and bathymetric survey data using USVs, GIS platforms and modern geospatial workflows.
• UAV Survey and Mapping: UAV-based surveying, LiDAR data collection, GIS analysis and spatial data integration for mapping, environmental and infrastructure projects.

Training is delivered through SeaBot Maritime’s facilities in Plymouth and Southampton, supported by an online knowledge hub, e-learning and simulation. The company is a MASS Certified Professional training scheme provider and a Maritime UK Solent Launchpad partner, and works with the National Oceanography Centre in Southampton and the University of Plymouth Marine Station.

For those leaving the Armed Forces, the skills built during Service transfer well. Watchkeeping, navigation, mission planning, operating technical systems under pressure and leading small teams are exactly what remote and autonomous operations demand. The three-stage pathway is well suited to Service leavers: Stage 1 delivers an MCA-recognised qualification that employers understand, and Stages 2 and 3 build on it towards supervisory and mission management roles as experience grows. SeaBot Maritime is an ELCAS-approved provider (number 14725), so eligible Service personnel and leavers can use their Enhanced Learning Credits towards its courses. The company is a signatory to the Armed Forces Covenant and works with defence organisations as well as commercial operators.

Alongside scheduled courses, SeaBot Maritime offers training needs analysis, curriculum design, custom e-learning, operating procedures, and certification and compliance support for organisations adopting autonomous technology.
