Savills

To support those leaving the military, Savills has created the Service Leavers in Real Estate programme.

Savills

Savills is a global real estate services provider offering expert advice and insight across commercial, residential and rural sectors. With around 10,000 employees in the UK, Savills works with corporate, public sector and private clients to optimise real estate strategies and asset management. Known for its values-led culture and consultative approach, the company is increasingly recognising the value that veterans and the wider Armed Forces community bring to its workforce. Identifying veteran employees, Savills currently employs over 30 veterans across its UK business. To help identify and support this community, job applicants are asked at the point of application whether they are veterans.

This upfront data collection supports early visibility and encourages inclusive hiring conversations. While the company does not currently monitor veteran retention rates, the identification process ensures new joiners can be signposted to relevant programmes and networks. Recruiting veterans, veteran recruitment at Savills is supported by direct engagement with the Armed Forces community through partnerships with the Career Transition Partnership (CTP). The company advertises roles through CTP platforms and regularly attends job fairs to raise awareness of opportunities across its real estate business.

Savills also runs seminars in collaboration with CTP, enabling potential candidates to hear directly from veteran employees about the transition experience and career pathways. Dedicated pathways, to support those leaving the military, Savills has created the Service Leavers in Real Estate programme. This initiative offers structured work placements, particularly within the company’s Property Management division. In collaboration with the Royal Engineers, Savills provides six-week placements designed to give service leavers a meaningful introduction to the industry. These placements have already led to direct recruitment into permanent roles. The programme also includes tailored seminars, which serve as a gateway for potential applicants and provide context about the real estate sector’s relevance to military experience. Career development, veteran employees at Savills have access to a wide range of learning and development opportunities.

This includes entry through the professional or degree apprenticeship programme, which feeds into the company’s professional qualification pathways. For those with existing qualifications or degrees, bespoke training is available, including technical, management and professional development. Veterans can also benefit from mentoring, internal networking, self-led learning modules, and access to professional memberships. These opportunities are designed to support growth at all levels of the business.
