What is ELCAS and who is eligible?

ELCAS (Enhanced Learning Credits Administration Service) is a Ministry of Defence scheme that provides financial support for current and former members of the UK Armed Forces (Royal Navy, British Army, and Royal Air Force) to gain civilian qualifications. You may be eligible if you're currently serving or if you left service within the last 10 years (5 years if you left before April 2016). Confirm your entitlement via the ELCAS portal or your resettlement officer.

Do I need prior experience?

Most of our ELCAS-funded courses are designed for career changers and do not require prior IT or technical experience. Your military background, including your discipline, problem-solving ability and operational mindset, gives you an excellent foundation.

How much funding can I access?

Depending on your length of service, you can access up to £1,000 (Lower Tier, 6–7 years) or up to £2,000 (Higher Tier, 8+ years) per financial year. ELCAS typically covers 80% of the course fee, with 20% paid by you or your employer.

I chose Newto’s cybersecurity course. I started from scratch. I didn't know the difference between an IP address and a MAC address.

Newto Training had me doing the A+ software and hardware, then I moved on to CompTIA Network+. I then studied for and passed the Security+ and CySA+ exams with CompTIA. I did Azure Fundamentals to finish it off with.

From there, with the help of the Newto Training staff, I managed to write a CV and get a job - and I'm actually in my first week of a job now.
