GXO Logistics is a global leader in providing advanced logistics solutions to some of the world’s most prominent companies. With operations spanning 27 countries, GXO manages over 950 warehouse locations and employs approximately 130,000 people globally, including 40,000 in the UK. GXO’s commitment to innovation, efficiency, and operational excellence is matched by its dedication to fostering an inclusive and supportive workplace – especially for veterans, reservists, and the wider Armed Forces community.
Identifying veteran employees, GXO employs over 400 veterans in the UK, and it has significantly expanded its efforts to identify and support this talent group. All candidates are asked at the point of application whether they are veterans, which helps ensure visibility and appropriate support from the outset. While retention data for veterans is not yet formally tracked, the company continues to strengthen internal systems that will enable better measurement and insight going forward. Recruiting veterans, veteran recruitment at GXO is driven by proactive engagement and practical support.
Each month, the company hosts a virtual “Introduction to Logistics and GXO” session in partnership with the Career Transition Partnership (CTP). These sessions, attended by an average of 25 service leavers, feature insights from current GXO employees with military experience and lead to multiple job and work experience enquiries each month. In 2024, all GXO job opportunities were integrated into the Veterans Jobs Board UK, significantly increasing accessibility. As a result, veteran applications rose from just over 4,000 in 2022 to more than 15,000 in 2024, and hires more than doubled – from 90 to 191. Even when veterans do not join GXO directly, the company provides value through CV reviews, mock interviews, and personalised employability coaching. These services support 4–5 individuals each month and help raise awareness of career opportunities in logistics and supply chain operations.
Dedicated pathways, to ease the transition from military to civilian employment, GXO has developed tailored pathways specifically for the Armed Forces community. These development plans focus on leveraging core military strengths – such as leadership, adaptability and problem-solving – while providing clear progression routes within the business. In 2024 alone, over 56 service leavers participated in GXO’s work experience programme, which offers hands-on exposure to logistics environments and helps contextualise transferable skills. Career development, all Armed Forces-affiliated employees have access to GXO’s internal learning platform, which offers over 46,000 free courses. This broad educational offering allows veterans to shape their career trajectory based on individual aspirations and skill gaps. In addition, GXO provides comprehensive soft skills training, with a particular focus on communication, civilian leadership, and professional adaptability. The goal is not just to recruit veterans but to equip them with the tools needed for long-term success within the business.
