Brampton Valley Group is a City & Guilds NPTC and Lantra Awards approved centre in South Northamptonshire, training people for careers in forestry, arboriculture and tree surgery. It is an ELCAS-approved provider, so Service leavers can put their Enhanced Learning Credits towards the qualifications.
Tree work is a practical trade that suits people who are comfortable outdoors, with machinery, at height and working to a safety standard. Much of what is built during Service transfers directly: risk assessment, working to procedure, physical fitness, teamwork and looking after kit.
Training is delivered from the company's own centre at York's Farm Business Centre near Towcester, which has a classroom and workshop alongside woodland used for practical sessions and assessment. Bespoke training can be arranged to suit an employer's requirements.
The courses listed below are the Level 3 qualifications for climbing, aerial chainsaw work, rigging and utility arboriculture. The centre also delivers the Level 2 tickets that normally come first, including chainsaw maintenance and cross-cutting, felling small trees, wood-chipper, stump grinder, brush-cutter, powered pole pruner and MEWP operation, along with pesticides, first aid and refresher courses for existing certificates.
Utility arboriculture is a distinct route worth knowing about. It covers vegetation management around overhead electricity lines and carries its own set of qualifications, from basic electrical knowledge and safe approach distances through to species recognition and pruning and felling near live apparatus.
Alongside the training business, the group runs a tree surgery and arboricultural consultancy operation. It is an ARB Approved Contractor, SafeContractor approved and TrustMark registered.
