Independent Resettlement & Recruitment Guide for Armed Forces & Veterans

Balfour Beatty

Balfour Beatty’s Military Talent Pathway offers a structured support programme for service leavers and veterans. All new joiners from the Armed Forces community are invited to a bi-monthly virtual welcome session, which introduces them to the company’s values and Armed Forces Covenant commitments. For those within two years of service, a six-month development programme is offered.

Balfour Beatty

Balfour Beatty is a leading infrastructure group that has shaped transport, energy and defence capabilities across the UK for over 115 years. Known for delivering complex construction and infrastructure projects, the company builds and maintains vital assets that underpin economic growth and national resilience. Its people work at the heart of communities, combining innovation with purpose to improve lives across the country. Identifying veteran employees, Balfour Beatty currently employs around 350 veterans across its UK operations, and it monitors the retention of Armed Forces community members at 12-month, three-year, and five-year intervals.

Retention rates among veteran employees are reported to be at least on par with general company retention. At the application stage, jobseekers are asked to identify whether they are veterans, which helps ensure visibility and support from the outset. Recruiting veterans, veteran recruitment is embedded through participation in careers fairs, insight days and partnerships with specialist organisations such as the White Ensign Association, RAF Galaxy, and Project RECCE. The company also works with Operation Prosper and the Forces Employment Charity, offering tailored courses and direct routes into employment. Work placements for service leavers are a key part of this approach, with several placements leading to permanent roles.
