Choosing a space career in Cornwall offers a unique opportunity to be part of an emerging space hub while enjoying an exceptional quality of life. With its strategic location to Spaceport, innovative space projects, rugged coastline and cultural heritage, Cornwall is an ideal place to launch and grow a career in the space industry.
The UK government is investing heavily in the space sector, with Cornwall being a significant beneficiary of this support. This ensures ongoing growth and development, providing long-term career stability and growth potential. By 2030, the Cornwall Space Cluster aims to increase the value of the data, space and aerospace sector by £150m, providing opportunities for people, communities and businesses to grow. Alongside this growth will be a clear demand for an increased workforce with appropriate skills for the sector. These could be new entrants, or those looking to transfer from existing roles.
Recognising that military personnel possess valuable skills such as leadership, technical expertise, and discipline which are transferrable to the space sector, Truro & Penwith College, in collaboration with key stakeholders, is developing an innovative training initiative to address the immediate and mid-term skills shortages in the space sector.
The "Step Into Space: Military to Space Career Transition Initiative” is designed to help military personnel transfer into the burgeoning UK space industry.
