The Service Leaver programme offers participants firsthand experience of working at BT, enabling them to maximise their potential in a new environment.​

About this programme

This programme is exclusively for current or former military personnel and spans six months as a paid opportunity.​

BT takes pride in being an employer of ex-military personnel and boasts the UK's second-largest Military Network.​

Whether individuals are preparing to leave military service or are ex-service personnel seeking new opportunities, BT welcomes their interest.​

The military background of these individuals has endowed them with invaluable skills—integrity, courage, determination, leadership, and teamwork. As one of the world's most respected technology and communications organisations, BT not only appreciates these qualities but also recognises and rewards them.​

Programme overview

The placement programme aims to:​

  • Aid the transition from a military environment to a corporate one.​
  • Provide exposure to roles in Technology.​
  • Enhance CVs to assist in future career searches.​
  • Offer opportunities to build a network within BT.​

Programme structure:

  • Duration: 6 months.​

  • Role areas: Project Management, Cyber Security, and Networks.​
  • A central tenet of the programme is the opportunity for learning and development; participants will have access to BT learning platforms to further develop their skills.​
  • Assignment of a buddy and a mentor.​
  • Regular one-on-one sessions with a line manager.​
  • Opportunities to network with peers, senior leaders, attend events, and engage with BT's Armed Forces Network.​
  • The programme offers a competitive compensation package.​

Selection Criteria

  • Evidence of achievement, self-motivation, and adaptability to new environments.​
  • Demonstrable service in the Armed Forces.​
  • Academic aptitude and commitment to self-improvement through further learning or professional qualifications.​
  • Availability to start work in May 2025.​
  • Right to work in the UK and the ability to work at the designated office three days per week.​
  • Possession of the required security clearance, where necessary.​
