Job Title
Senior Station Technician / Station Technician
We have an exciting opportunity at Mallaig Lifeboat Station for a Station Technician or a Senior Station Technician to join the team. This would suit someone whose mechanical expertise, resilience, leadership, and management skills are just as strong as their ability to keep Mallaig Lifeboat Station in perfect operational order.
To succeed as Senior Station Technician, you’ll have an NVQ L4/SVQ L5 in an engineering discipline, a time-served engineering apprenticeship, or a sound background and experience in mechanical electrical or electronic engineering. You will also ensure that the lifeboat station functions on a day-to-day basis. You will be involved in training volunteer crew members – so that when an emergency shout does occur, you, your crew, and your lifeboat will be absolutely prepared.
You will have the ability to build effective relationships with volunteers at the lifeboat station, the supporters locally and RNLI staff beyond while acting as an ambassador for the station and the RNLI within the community.
You will be someone who already holds or is willing and able to work towards the required qualifications and competencies for this role. If you don’t have everything mentioned in the job spec, please still apply; we are keen to hear how your previous experience could fit with this role in the RNLI. Attitude and willingness to progress and learn are most important.
You will be personally motivated, prepared to work in isolation and as part of a team, and keen to solve problems, drive your own development and support others to develop. You will have high-quality interpersonal skills and the ability to build open and inclusive relationships. You will take pride in your work and be willing to ask for and receive feedback.
