WHY NOW IS A GREAT TIME TO QUALIFY AS A PERSONAL TRAINER

NEWS

A recent consumer survey has revealed, three quarters of adults (76 per cent) want to improve their fitness and wellbeing when they exit lockdown. This presents a huge opportunity for qualified fitness professionals.

The 4,000 participant survey, commissioned by TA6, a sub-division of leisure developer, Alliance Leisure, also found lockdown has sparked a new interest in exercise among individuals classified as inactive (taking part in less than 30 minutes of moderate exercise a week). The findings reported, 69 per cent of inactive adults have increased their exercise levels during lockdown.

Dan Rees, Commercial Director at Premier Global NASM, the UK’s leading fitness professional training provider, says: “As the UK government starts to lift restrictions introduced to slow the spread of COVID-19, the survey suggests there will be a significant up-surge in the number of people seeking professional guidance regarding exercise. This creates a huge opportunity for qualified personal trainers. Now is a great time to be preparing for a new career in this field.”

Two years ago, well ahead of other training providers in the fitness sector, Premier Global NASM digitally transformed the business, migrating its physical training model, online. This move was driven by a market need to make training more accessible, affordable and flexible. Rees, explains: “People lead busy lives and education practices need to recognise this and adapt. Our model now enables students to enjoy Live Learning Through Digital Technology. This means almost 100 per cent of the learning journey can be conducted remotely, enabling training to take place around other work and family commitments and negating the need to travel to training venues. This has proved to be extremely popular and has enabled us to continue to train students throughout this period of imposed lockdown.”

Premier Global NASM’s unique Optimum Performance Training™ (OPT™)  Model teaches personal trainers how to apply proven, scientifically based training techniques to almost any training need. This enables students to work with anyone from a complete exercise novice (for example the ‘inactive’ individuals leaving lockdown with a new enthusiasm for exercise), to a professional athlete.

The OPT™ Model,  developed by Dr Mike Clark, uses an integrated approach to exercise, combining multiple forms of training into one progressive system that focuses on the principals of how the human body works. These include: flexibility training, cardio-respiratory training, core training, balance training, plyometric training, speed, agility and quickness training, and resistance training.

A fundamental component of the OPT™ Model is assessment, and this is what distinguishes the training model and prepares fitness professionals to work with all clients, including special populations. Trainers learn how to conduct a series of health and movement assessments to observe and understand exactly how the client moves, noting any muscle imbalances etc. The results of these assessments are used to develop a truly bespoke exercise programme for each client, determining where trainers need to focus on attention to safely progress individuals towards their goals.
