Soldiering On Awards 2020: 10th anniversary finalists announced
QUEST is delighted to share news of the finalists in each category of the 2020 Soldiering On Awards, celebrating the very best of the Armed Forces community
In selecting this year’s finalists, Awards president, General the Lord Dannatt GCB, CBE, MC, DL and vice-president Debra Allcock-Tyler CEO, the Directory of Social Change, led a distinguished panel of judges to choose from an outstanding field of nominations, with a record number of submissions having been received for this 10th anniversary year.
All finalists will be invited to a private reception at the House of Lords in February, hosted by Lord Dannatt and attended by Awards patron the Rt Hon Earl Howe PC and special guests. Overall winners will be announced at a prestigious black-tie event at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel on Friday 24 April 2020.
The overall winners of two of the categories, the People’s Choice Award and Animal Partnership Award, will be decided by an online public vote, which will commence from 20 February here.
Says Awards president, Lord Dannatt, ‘I would like to thank everybody involved with this extremely worthwhile task; the judges who’ve given their valuable time to select the finalists and those who selflessly nominated others in the first instance. I would also like to thank those who support the Armed Forces community in the widest sense, whether it is charities, businesses, individuals or local authorities. These Awards represent the essence of that community and this year’s finalists are role models for us all.’
Awards patron, the Rt Hon Earl Howe PC adds: ‘It is an honour to be announcing such outstanding finalists in this, the Soldiering On Awards’ 10th anniversary year. Each group of finalists stands on the shoulders of remarkable people who have gone before them, and they are now the worthy holders of this special recognition on behalf of the Armed Forces community. We salute you all!’
Soldiering On Awards co-chairs, Lt Col. Ren Kapur MBE and Wg Cdr Tal Lambert MBE, continue: ‘The Armed Forces lead the way in demonstrating what it truly means to be a supportive community, both when duty calls and beyond into civilian life. The ethos, values and achievements of each of this year’s finalists are remarkable and they deserve our hearty congratulations to have reached this position among so much worthy competition.’

About the Awards
The Soldiering On Awards (SOA) recognise the outstanding achievements of those who have served their country. We aim to encourage support for this remarkable community by celebrating the achievements of the people, teams, charities, businesses and animal partners within it.
The Awards highlight the valuable contribution, ethos, skills and can-do attitude that ex-Service personnel, reservists, veterans and their families bring to society as a whole, along with all those who work together in supporting this ethos and community.
10th anniversary year
2020 marks SOA’s 10th anniversary year and we will be highlighting the achievements of many past milestones, finalists and winners on Awards night.
Independent judging panel
Each category has been rigorously judged by two rounds of independent judging panels. Judging is co-chaired by the Awards’ president, General the Lord Dannatt GCB, CBE MC, DL, and vice president Debra Allcock Tyler, CEO of the Directory of Social Change. To see the full list of Awards judges, Click here.
We believe that winning an award should be the start of a journey, not the end. Awards night is the first step on a 12-month journey of support for Award winners on the next stage of their journeys. Each winner will have a bespoke 12-month programme of support from the range of services provided through XFE and/or our partners. This programme of support, called 3:6:12, incudes promotion and knowledge exchange or connections.
Charity raffle in support of the Armed Forces community
An important aspect of the Awards is to give back to support those in need within the community. In 2020 we will hold a raffle in support of Navy, Army and RAF benevolent funds, coordinated by ABF the Soldiers’ Charity.
Sponsors and supporters
The Awards are made possible only through the generous support of our sponsors and supporters. For full details, click here.
