A helping hand for Gildea House families this Christmas
Fujitsu is working with SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity to raise much-needed funds to provide presents for families at the charity’s Gildea House …
SSAFA’s Gildea House is a Stepping Stone Home that provides help and support for women and their children who find themselves estranged, widowed or have fled the family home due to domestic abuse. It relies on generous donations to enable it to buy toys, arrange days out for the children and provide occasional gifts that families cannot afford to buy.
For the second year running, Fujitsu is working together with SSAFA to provide a memorable Christmas for the women and children currently living at Gildea House. The money raised will go towards providing Christmas presents for the women and children being supported by SSAFA.
Fujitsu has been a corporate partner of SSAFA since 2007 and has raised more than £420,000 to date, to support Service personnel, veterans and their families. This year, Fujitsu has worked closely with SSAFA throughout the pandemic on a number of initiatives, including the VE Day 75 art competition and ‘The SSAFA meal deal’. In addition, this Christmas Fujitsu has donated £25,000 to SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity to help it continue its work to support the Armed Forces community.
Says James Grant, SSAFA’s head of corporate fundraising and events: ‘We are incredibly grateful to Fujitsu, which is helping us provide Christmas presents to the women and children at Gildea House for the second year running. Gildea House is a haven for many women and children from the Armed Forces family. It provides a comfortable, secure and female-only place to stay for as long as individuals need to get back on their feet.’
Maxine Ashbrook, head of marketing for defence and national security, Fujitsu, adds: ‘We were overwhelmed with our colleagues’ response last year when we first supported Gildea House at Christmas, and are absolutely delighted to be running this initiative for the second time. Working with our partner SSAFA we hope to provide another memorable Christmas for all those at Gildea House.’

About SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity
SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity has been providing lifelong support to our Forces and their families since 1885. Last year our teams of volunteers and employees helped more than 85,000 people in need, from Second World War veterans to young men and women who have served in more recent conflicts, and their families. SSAFA understands that behind every uniform is a person. We are here for that person – any time they need us, in any way they need us, for as long as they need.
