This four week residential resettlement programme combines two weeks of classroom study sandwiched with two weeks of work experience and work based learning activities relevant to your final examination.

The Qualifications
The British Institute of Innkeeping National Certificate in Licensed Retailing: This comprises of the National Certificate for Personal Licence Holders and the Introduction to Licensed Retail Operations Certificate. This is the higher level professional qualification for new entrants to the industry.
The Royal Society for the Promotion of Health: Basic Food Hygiene Certificate
The Licensed Retail Diploma - our own Diploma which states the entire course content, and, as Herron House holds two National Innkeeping Awards and a National Training Award - this is not just another piece of paper!
In addition to the National Certificate in Licensed Retailing syllabus you will be covering certain subject areas in greater depth, thus placing you at an advantage over other applicants who have attended courses less comprehensive.

This is without doubt the most important part of the course as you will, not only in gaining valuable practical experience in every aspect of running a successful pub/bar, but be completing activities and information gathering exercises which will give you a better understanding of the pub business culture.

All work placements are with experienced Managers / Tenants who have been involved in Resettlement Training for a number of years. We endeavour to match you up with the type of pub that you feel is best suited to your initial career objective.
It is a two week module that allows those involved in your training, if required, to provide you with ‘credible references’ for any future employer, Recruitment Manager, Tenanted Sales Manager etc.
Examination
The National Certificate in Licensed Retailing is an externally marked, ‘closed book’ exam in two parts
PART 1 - The National Certificate for Personal Licence Holders is taken in the early part of the course - so if you do not pass first time, we will have time to arrange a resit for you whilst you are still here. This part of the course covers the law and social responsibilities. The exam comprises of forty questions in two parts

PART 2 - The introduction to Licensed Retail Operations Certificate is a forty question multiple choice paper with questions being taken from the fourteen units of the syllabus.
Royal Society for the Promotion of Health - Basic Food Hygiene Certificate - this nationally recognised qualification is awarded following a simple multiple choice question paper.
You will also be taking a ‘mock’ exam prior to doing the real thing, so we still have time to tutor you on any subject areas that you may need help with.
