Would you like to star in an exciting new television series? ITV is on the look out once again for tough, charismatic military personnel to put the fear of God into another group of today’s lads as they volunteer for a dose of 1950s’ National Service.

Two years ago, ITV’s award-winning “Lads Army” series took modern army personnel, hired military historians to show them how the army functioned in the 1950s, and then let them loose on a group of raw recruits. A new series is now planned for the summer but this time there’s a bold new development – one which goes to the heart of the debate on National Service. This time the recruits will be bad lads. Some will have had brushes with the law; others may just be lazy and lost their way. The programme-makers hope to discover whether a short, sharp dose of 1950s-style military training can really sort out the troubled youth of today.

The series will follow the fortunes of these 30 volunteers as they contend with homesickness, barrack room tensions and a gruelling regime. Those who fail to make the grade will be subject to a range of punishments used at that time: cleaning the communal lavatories with a toothbrush, cutting the lawn with nail scissors, and white-washing every rock on the base with a single-haired brush.

Divided from the outset into two competing squads, they will battle, not only to win the section competition but also for the ultimate reward of some good old-fashioned values – self-discipline, self-reliance and self-knowledge.

ITV is looking for senior NCOs, WOs, Officers, PTIs, Provos Sgts and MOs to take part in the series. Do you think you can perform in front of TV cameras? Are you approaching or have recently finished 22 years’ colour service? Are you free from mid-May to the end of June?

If you think you can sort these bad lads out, call Jen on 0207 284 2020, weekdays between 9.30 and 5.30.
