Hope building for construction jobs
Of course, the construction industry has found itself adversely affected of late by the downturn in the economy, but there is hope reports the Construction Skills Network, which reports a slow return to growth and a steady increase in jobs. To back this up, in February, Jobcentre Plus reported an upturn in the number of construction-related jobs being advertised – 20,000 new jobs in the previous three months. And Construction Skills Network spokesperson Sandra Lilley comments that, ‘It is crucial for the industry to focus on retaining and reskilling workers currently in employment. The industry needs to act now to avoid the long-term skills shortages it faced after the 1990s recession.’
