Fire risk assessment/fire safety qualification training, and using your ELCOrganisations have to appoint their own Fire Safety Managers, normally as part of health and safety duties. Occasionally organisations employ the services of consultants to carry out fire risk assessments, and produce fire emergency plans and support in fire safety management. Whether employed by an organisation or as a consultant, it is often the opinion of organisations that employees/consultants who have health and safety qualifications can perform the fire safety role without specific fire safety training. This is very short-sighted as when the organisation is visited by the enforcing authorities or, worse, should the premises experience a fire, there are very hefty fines and even imprisonment for the head of the organisation, who is ultimately responsible for fire safety if fire safety management arrangements are not suitable or sufficient. Employees or consultants who can prove that they have a professional fire safety qualification are an asset to any organisation in fulfilling its statutory obligations under current legislation. The basic fire safety qualification of Fire Technician TechIFSM (nine days) gives delegates the tools and a thorough understanding of fire safety provision, fire risk assessment and managing fire safety in the workplace. Vulcan offers a Fire Manager Fire Technician Course accredited by the Institute of Fire Safety Managers (IFSM), and held in Basildon, Northampton, Manchester and Glasgow throughout the year. The course is run in two modules of five and four days so that delegates do not have to be away from their duties for nine days in one stretch. For candidates who already hold the NEBOSH Fire Safety & Risk Management Certificate there is an exemption from Module 2 (four days) of the Fire Manager Certificate, and delegates can take the first module (five days) to be able to apply for Fire Technician grade with the IFSM as well as any of the other fire safety institutes, such as IFE and IFPO.
Vulcan has been running these prestigious courses successfully for over 18 years and with self-regulation legislation coming into force in autumn 2006, Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order) 2005 or Fire Scotland Act 2005, placing the responsibility for fire safety in organisations with management, with the fire service being the main enforcement agency for the current legislation.
