How Do You Decide Who To Train With?

How do you know which training provider to choose when there are so many to choose from? Some areas to consider could be:

1. Look at who they are accredited by
2. Look at their staff and their qualifications
3. Look at the price – are they too dear or even too cheap?Any VAT?
4.Can you visit the Training Provider without an appointment?
5.Space available

Accreditations

Able Skills is an accredited centre securing approval to deliver qualification training from City & Guilds, Construction Awards Alliance, EAL, NICEIC and CITB for gas training and assessment. We are amongst the few training providers who can offer you progression and if qualifications are your choice – take you from novice to expert.

Staff & Facilities

All of our Instructors are time served and construction specific qualified but each tutor has also achieved the required teaching and assessing awards. All of our Instructors work full time at Able Skills and only deliver the courses which they are qualified to do. We are very proud of the staff employed at Able Skills; please visit our staff page to see potentially who your instructor may be. Having full time dedicated staff allows us to run all of our courses all of the time in dedicated training areas. We do not share work areas with other trades for example: you will not be falling over a Bricklayer whilst undertaking your Plumbing training and so on.

Price

All of the training available varies in price; we are not the cheapest but we are not the most expensive. We do believe in providing a value for money service and we have no hidden costs, no extras to pay and all of our costs include VAT. We do believe that everyone should have access to training which is why we offer the most reasonable payment plans. Even if these are not within your financial range, we can provide you with details of available adult funding options.

Summary

We do not hard sell, cold call or visit your home – We do not employ a Sales Team!
We do however believe in honesty and will not attempt to recruit you under false pretences.

When you call or visit with an enquiry, we will always make it clear as to what you can expect from the training you are seeking and also provide you with details of what your options are should you choose to take your training to the next level.

We have flexible training programmes to fit in with just about every possible working scenario, flexible payment plans to try to suit everyone’s financial circumstances, large subject specific Training Centres and as previously stated, qualified, full time, dedicated staff.

We take pride in everything we do from our non accredited training courses right through to qualification based courses. We are aware that not everyone is seeking a qualification but we continue to ensure that even these programmes are taught by qualified instructors so you are assured that you are treated with the same dedication as those training for qualifications.

If qualifications are your aim, Able Skills has the relevant approvals in place to progress you. We can offer qualifications at levels 1, 2 and 3 and as an NVQ assessment centre we fully understand the processes in place to obtain an NVQ. Some training centres will lead you to believe that an NVQ can be achieved within a training environment or without underpinning knowledge, this is not the case. If we can’t offer you what you want, we will tell you and try and redirect you to the best of our ability. We can guide you in the right direction once we know what you are looking to achieve, your options vary dependent upon what trade you are interested in, whether you are considering employment or self employment and what kind of time you have available to you. We know the construction industry well and consistently remain up to date with changes and practices to ensure the highest level of training is available at Able Skills.

Cost/Location/Training

Our training patterns are amongst the most flexible available. We can provide weekend training, separated blocks of training and the flexibility to spread the training over a period of up to 18 months.

Due to the high demand for our excellent plastering training, we have now opened a bigger Plastering Training Centre designed to be able to meet any plastering course requirements. This new Plastering Centre comes complete with 3 time served and qualified instructors, dedicated assessment areas for qualification students, designated areas for those of you who only need 5 days, designated dry lining department and every plastering tool you could ever need. Years of experience in delivering plastering training has allowed us to listen and learn and establish the needs of plasterers everywhere, whatever your plastering skill level, we are sure that there is a plastering course here for you. From beginners to time served plasterers everywhere, we can teach you, progress you and even qualify those of you who have been plastering forever.

Welcome to Able Skills 5 day Intensive Plastering Courses

Our 5 day Intensive Plastering Course will provide you with a great insight and understanding of plastering whether you are a total beginner or have some previous plastering experience.

If you set out with the intention of attending purely for the purposes of DIY then you will not be disappointed; this plastering course will meet your expectations and you will be ready to give that plastering project a go. At the same time, if you have a desire to move onto a plastering qualification, then this will also act as your underpinning knowledge to move forward when you are ready. The principles of plastering will be taught in a hands on fashion and the areas covered are also units within Nationally recognised City & Guilds awards and CAA Construction Awards, so if you do decide to progress at a later date, this short plastering course will stand you in good stead and could act as historical evidence and/or job knowledge.

Able Skills Intensive 5 day Plastering Course.

During our 5 day plastering course we will cover every aspect of Plastering that we can and feel confident that after spending that short time with us, you will be ready to tackle everyday plastering requirements. Should you be looking to do a DIY project or for a change in career, we feel confident that any of the plastering courses we offer will suit your needs.

During this 5 day Intensive Plastering Course you will learn:

Health & Safety and PPE, To cut and fix plaster board to walls and ceilings, To tape standard and internal joints, To cut and fix angle beads around windows and reveals, To prepare surfaces before plastering using bonding plaster and finishing plaster, ensuring a flat finished surface ready for decorating, To mix plastering materials, To skim walls, To skim ceilings and To apply PVA adhesive Unibond to existing surfaces.

At the start of this plastering course, you will be presented with a folder containing a day by day schedule of the different stages you will be covering throughout the period of your plastering training. In addition, you will also be provided with various different plastering notes as well as useful and relevant paper work for when you undertake plastering tasks at home or at work. During this plastering 5 day course, all tools and materials are supplied for your use. We will ensure that the use of all of the following tools is explained and demonstrated:

Hawk, Steel Floating Trowel, Gauging Trowel, Plastic Floating Trowel, Hammer, Internal Angle Trowel, Straight Edge, Stanley Knife, Tape Measure, Saw andTin Snips.

We will also explain and demonstrate all the different materials used for different surfaces.

Qualifications offered

Able Skills Plastering Course Options

At Able Skills we take pride in what we have to offer to everyone and see ourselves as leaders within the training industry and probably the only training centre who can offer you progression in any area.

We try to make all training as accessible as possible to everyone so if you have weekly commitments but would still like to learn to plaster, we offer plastering training over 2 consecutive weekends. Please visit our Weekend Plastering page.

Additionally, if you would like to learn that little bit more about plastering, but do not want to commit to a qualification we offer a 5 day Advanced Plastering Course, this is also available over weekends.

These are all hands-on, practical plastering courses and you will be involved at every stage and will be participating throughout. It is therefore recommended you bring suitable clothing and for your own safety, steel capped footwear is essential. All tools and materials will be provided throughout your training period.

Upgrade to Plastering Qualifications

After having spent a week with us plastering on an intensive course you may decide to upgrade to the City & Guilds option, this is a 6 week course and will provide you with recognised plastering qualifications. If you decide to upgrade, we will adjust your training time and fees to accommodate for the 5 day plastering course completed. Whether you do decide to upgrade or not, the week spent with us will not have been wasted as you will have gained a great deal of practical knowledge.

Equal training and facilities will be offered to everyone regardless of whether you choose a 5 or 10 day plastering course or the City & Guilds/CAA options. All Instructors at Able Skills have been selected because of their on site construction experience and their relevant teaching qualifications. We employ full time, dedicated instructors who have an abundance of plastering experience and who are keen to help others achieve an acceptable level of competence in plastering.

At the end of your plastering course you will receive an Able Skills Certificate of completion and you can also have a portfolio and photographs of the stages of the work you have carried out during the period you have trained with us; this may assist you in gaining employment at a later stage or additionally, act as contributory evidence should you look to gain an NVQ once working within the plastering industry.

If you are lucky enough to have plastering work readily available to you then you have the option to use Able Skills registered NVQ assessors to help and guide you towards an NVQ once you feel ready and confident to tackle the required units.

Courses are held Monday to Friday. Weekend training is Saturday and Sunday.

Able Skills has their own accommodation available at £20 per night for those of you who are travelling longer distances to train with us.

We are not claiming to make you a qualified Plasterer in 5 days but we do promise to provide you with dedicated plastering training and an excellent opportunity to progress further if you want. Our 5 day plastering courses will act as a great basis for work within the plastering industry but we do recommend that you consider additional training if you want to sustain a long term career as a Plasterer.
