How Do You Decide Who To Train With?

How do you know which training provider to choose when there are so many to choose from? Some areas to consider could be:

1. Look at who they are accredited by
2. Look at their staff and their qualifications
3. Look at the price – are they too dear or even too cheap?Any VAT?
4.Can you visit the Training Provider without an appointment?
5.Space available

Accreditations

Able Skills is an accredited centre securing approval to deliver qualification training from City & Guilds, Construction Awards Alliance, EAL, NICEIC and CITB for gas training and assessment. We are amongst the few training providers who can offer you progression and if qualifications are your choice – take you from novice to expert.

Staff & Facilities

All of our Instructors are time served and construction specific qualified but each tutor has also achieved the required teaching and assessing awards. All of our Instructors work full time at Able Skills and only deliver the courses which they are qualified to do. We are very proud of the staff employed at Able Skills; please visit our staff page to see potentially who your instructor may be. Having full time dedicated staff allows us to run all of our courses all of the time in dedicated training areas. We do not share work areas with other trades for example: you will not be falling over a Bricklayer whilst undertaking your Plumbing training and so on.

Price

All of the training available varies in price; we are not the cheapest but we are not the most expensive. We do believe in providing a value for money service and we have no hidden costs, no extras to pay and all of our costs include VAT. We do believe that everyone should have access to training which is why we offer the most reasonable payment plans. Even if these are not within your financial range, we can provide you with details of available adult funding options.

Summary

We do not hard sell, cold call or visit your home – We do not employ a Sales Team!
We do however believe in honesty and will not attempt to recruit you under false pretences.

When you call or visit with an enquiry, we will always make it clear as to what you can expect from the training you are seeking and also provide you with details of what your options are should you choose to take your training to the next level.

We have flexible training programmes to fit in with just about every possible working scenario, flexible payment plans to try to suit everyone’s financial circumstances, large subject specific Training Centres and as previously stated, qualified, full time, dedicated staff.

We take pride in everything we do from our non accredited training courses right through to qualification based courses. We are aware that not everyone is seeking a qualification but we continue to ensure that even these programmes are taught by qualified instructors so you are assured that you are treated with the same dedication as those training for qualifications.

If qualifications are your aim, Able Skills has the relevant approvals in place to progress you. We can offer qualifications at levels 1, 2 and 3 and as an NVQ assessment centre we fully understand the processes in place to obtain an NVQ. Some training centres will lead you to believe that an NVQ can be achieved within a training environment or without underpinning knowledge, this is not the case. For the correct guidance on achieving an NVQ, please visit the relevant pages within this site.

If we can’t offer you what you want, we will tell you and try and redirect you to the best of our ability. We can guide you in the right direction once we know what you are looking to achieve, your options vary dependent upon what trade you are interested in, whether you are considering employment or self employment and what kind of time you have available to you. We know the construction industry well and consistently remain up to date with changes and practices to ensure the highest level of training is available at Able Skills.

We hope that this has helped you choose the right Training Centre for YOU

Cost/Location/Training

Our training patterns are amongst the most flexible available. We can provide weekend training, separated blocks of training and the flexibility to spread the training over a period of up to 18 months.

Our office staff will deal with any enquiry you have and if you choose Able Skills then you will have made a great choice. If Able Skills does not deliver the kind of training you require, we wish you the very best in tracking down the training provider who does.

Electrical Courses from Able Skills

Course description

Choosing a career as an Electrician and choosing the right Electrical course for you

A career as an electrician can be profitable as well as rewarding there are many electrical courses available so choosing the right one is very important.
An electrician may be referred to as a domestic or commercial installer or even an installation electrician. An electrician does a variety of services including design, installation and testing of electrical circuits. It can be an exciting field that with the proper training can be very rewarding and can provide progression to being a fully qualified Electrician.

What does an Electrician do?
Electricians can be employed or self employed and they can work within the domestic or industrial/commercial sector. The work of an electrician is very varied and can include anything from fitting a bathroom shower circuit to checking the wiring for a faulty line in a residential home. An electrician may also work with major electrical cabling in huge businesses and office spaces. An experienced electrician will have the ability to take and study contractors’ plans and be able to determine where to fit in wiring, sockets and other electrical issues that are required. They will do the installing of electric lines, running them through ceilings, floors and walls and may get to fit fuse boxes and circuit breakers, as well as mount what are called “back-boxes” onto the walls to take the plug sockets and points. An electrician may also carry out a second “fix”. This means they connect the wiring that is already laid out into sockets, light fixtures, appliances and switches, making them workable.

What skills and knowledge will I need to become an Electrician?
1.                 good practical skills to work with hand and power tools
2.                 the ability to follow technical drawings and instructions
3.                 a methodical approach to work and the ability to pay close attention to detail
4.                 a commitment to keep up to date with industry developments
5.                 the ability to work unsupervised and as part of a team
6.                 good communication skills
7.                 normal colour vision
8.                 a thorough understanding of electrical safety rules and regulations.

For more information please call us on 01322 280202 where staff are available 7 days every week to take your calls and advise you accordingly. Alternatively, you can email us: info@ableskills.co.uk

All Course Times are: 08.30am-16.30pm.

Qualifications offered

What electrical qualifications and experience will employers look for?
There are many electricial courses available, different electricial courses for different routes and different levels.
To start on the path to becoming a fully qualified electrician you will need to undertake the City & Guilds (2330) Technical Certificate in Electrotechnical Technology levels 2 and 3. Other electricians courses which will prove invaluable as you progress are City & Guilds 2382 (17th edition) Wiring Regulations and City & Guilds 2391 Inspection and Testing
Technical certificates are essential electricians courses as they cover the theory and practical skills needed to move on into the electrical industry and towards NVQ qualification.
We do recommend that you gain a placement or employment within the electrical industry as soon as you are able to, so that you can eventually complete the NVQ.

What further electrical courses can I do?
If you are working in the industry, you can take the Electrotechnical Services NVQ at Level 3, awarded by City & Guilds (C&G 2356).
The NVQ contains several options but for installation work, you will need to take the one for Electrical Installation (Building & Structures).
Your employer may ask you to take two other qualifications:
1.                 City & Guilds (2391) Inspection, Testing and Certification of Installations
2.                 City & Guilds (2382) 17th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations.
You could also take further electrician courses for professional development purposes, for example the City & Guilds In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (2377), often known as portable appliance testing (PAT).

Electrical Safety and Part P
Part P of the Building Regulations states that certain types of household electrical work must be approved by a certified contractor or building inspector. You can certify your own work by completing a short Part P training scheme.
Entry requirements for a scheme will depend on your qualifications and experience.
All of these Electricial training courses are available at Able Skills. We offer every electricians course as stand alone options but we have also arranged various electricians training packages to save you time and money.

The majority of our electrical courses are available using weekend training.
If you would like to find out more about electricians training, packages available or you would like advice or guidance about the best electrical route for you, please call, email or visit us at Able Skills.
